About the Campaign
COVID-19 disrupted education in the Global South. More than 11 million girls may never come back to school and might be forced to join the ranks of 130 million girls who were already out of school before the pandemic (UNESCO). In developing countries, twice as many girls as boys still will never start school.
Today, most of the world's 773 million illiterate adults are women (UNESCO). We can't leave women and girls, half the world, behind!
Women and girls are half of the world's population and half of its potential. Investing in women and girls is not only the right thing to do, it is the smart thing to do. When girls are educated their countries become more prosperous. Girl's and women's access to education is crucial for a more just and sustainable world.
Education for Women Now is a global movement of philanthropists, foundations and corporate changemakers, passionate about ensuring access to education and removing gender inequality barriers. The campaign will ensure that an additional 3 million women and girls in Africa, Asia and Europe can unlock their potential and have access to quality education by 2025.
Inspired by Nelson Mandela who referred to education as "the most powerful weapon to change the world," Denise Epoté said: "Education is a weapon of mass construction. Let's hand it to girls and women because they are the ones who will change the world."
Supporting women and girls now is more important than ever. Join Education for Women Now today and give girls and women the power to act tomorrow.
