Jean-Baptiste CHAUVELHead of the Regional Economic Department – Near & Middle East - French Treasury

Jean-Baptiste Chauvel has been serving as Head of the Regional Economic Department for Egypt, Levant and Middle East countries since September 2026, based at the French Embassy in Beirut. He previously headed the Regional Economic Department for the Arabian Peninsula, based at the French Embassy in the U.A.E. (2022–2026), after having served as an advisor to the French Minister for Foreign Trade (2020–2022). 

Jean-Baptiste Chauvel began his career in investment banking (2003–2013) before joining the Directorate General of the Treasury and subsequently the French Government Shareholding Agency (APE). He was a member of the Executive Board of Kepler Cheuvreux, the Supervisory Board of Compagnie Nationale du Rhône, and the Boards of Directors of Orano Mining and Orano Cycle. He is a graduate of HEC Paris and an alumnus of the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA).
