Masdar Executive Director named Woman of the Year in renewable energy sector

Dr Lamya Fawwaz, Executive Director of Brand and Strategic Initiatives, Masdar, has been recognized as Woman of the Year at the fourth annual Women

Dr Lamya Fawwaz, Executive Director of Brand and Strategic Initiatives, Masdar, has been recognized as Woman of the Year at the fourth annual Women in Renewables Asia (WiRA) Awards event, held yesterday in Dubai. The event also saw Masdar sign a pledge committing to advance  diversity and inclusion in the workplace. 

The WiRA Awards event recognizes women working in the renewable energy sector who consistently demonstrate outstanding leadership and significant contribution to the renewables sector.

"I am proud of the work we are doing in Masdar to help realize the UAE's vision of becoming a world leader in renewable energy and sustainability. And I am proud to be working alongside all of you here tonight who are involved in accelerating the clean energy transformation so critically needed to ensure the survival of our planet and our future generations," Dr Fawwaz said in her acceptance speech at the WIRA Awards 2022 gala dinner.

Dr Fawwaz is responsible for leading Masdar's communication, branding, and stakeholder engagement strategies. She is also the director of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, an annual award that accelerates the development of sustainable solutions that promote prosperity across the world. She leads Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), one of the world's largest sustainability gatherings, and oversees Masdar's youth outreach initiatives to inspire and empower the next generation of sustainability leaders. 

Following the WiRA Woman of the Year award ceremony, the Masdar-ENGIE Corporate Pledge for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion was signed by Ahmed Baghoum, Executive Director, Human Capital and Services, Masdar, and Charlotte Roule, Group Chief Strategy Officer, ENGIE.  

The pledge aims to rally the energy business community to advance diversity and inclusion within the workplace. It outlines a specific set of actions to cultivate a trusting environment where all ideas are welcomed, and employees, especially women, feel comfortable and empowered to realize their capability and career potential. As a signatory, Masdar affirms its commitment to unconscious stereotype training and inclusive work; equitable hiring standards and practices; corporate exchange on best and unsuccessful practices; and accountability systems.

WiRA, which is the first women's NGO in Asia's renewable energy industry, is part of Connecting Green Hydrogen MENA 2022 and Solar Energy Future MENA. 2022.
