Fractal Systems has been awarded for the Australian Pavilion on Expo2020 Dubai

We have interviewed Thierry Louesse, Owner & Managing Director de Fractal Systems

Good morning Thierry, last year during your Competition for the most Innovative Company, you told us that you were investing heavily to prepare for the Expo2020. Where do you stand on that point, and what are the results ?

Indeed, despite the current status of the market, we made the bet, that it will reverse at least to serve the Expo2020Dubai needs. So, we’ve heavily invested in our R&D and our Manpower. From the innovation point of view, we have succeeded to integrate many technologies to develop various concepts which has never been seen before. In addition to that, on the Manpower side, we have sent our team on intensive trainings to get familiar with the latest electronic components. Actually, in 2019 we have doubled our staff to reach more than 100 full-time employees.

You have been awarded for the Australian Pavilion as well. Could you please let us know a bit more

Indeed we have just received the official contract. We worked on this project for the last 8 months. It has been a long and painful journey, but we learnt a lot… and now we are ready.

Our mission starts from the Definition of the Visitor Experience, Creation of the entire Mechatronics animation, Installation of the entire Signage architecture, Audio and Video installation; and of course Operations during the 6 months of the Expo2020Dubai. It’s almost a turnkey solution, except the construction of the walls and the fit-out…

What were your challenges ?

Expo2020Dubai attracts all the contenders worldwide. It has been an endless race to prove that we could deliver better than anybody else, and especially against the Australian companies! 

What was your key differentiator ?

The fact that we could deliver the Entire Scope, from the Creative Conceptualization stage, Design, Fabrication… to the Maintenance, all this, under the same roof. I believe we are the only one in the region that could do it all in-house. It is always a peace of mind for the customer to deal with a SPOC (single point of Contact) for the whole project.

Are you expecting more pavilions?  

Well obviously I cannot say untill we get the contract in hand, but I’m very confident on couple more to come. We are very close.

Isn’t late?

For sure for us the time is always a critical factor. Everything should be ready by July 2020… and we are still being contacted by some countries, which have not even started their design yet. This is scary. But apparently it is the same scenario happening during every EXPO ! And it works !!

How could you help the other French Companies ?

We are already working and partnering with some talented colleagues to enlarge the spectrum of our offer.

 Do you have tangible examples?

Yes, just to quote one, we are partnering with a well known French Lighting manufacturer, to deliver a turnkey lighting solution for the pavilions. I’m very confident that we will sign few. But it will come at the last minute… !
